"Ladies and Gentlemen, We've done
it"
Fitehouse has dropped the bomb. Fitehouse's on-going assault on the Recording Industry (carried out through its innovative postcard campaign) has climaxed with unleashing of our secret weapon: open source music. The Bomb EP includes 2 brand new Fitehouse songs, "Running Scared" (our anti-Recording Industry Anthem) and "All These Things" (our vision for the type of pop/rock music that is possible in the post-RIAA era). What is more, "Running Scared" is being released under the terms of the Fitehouse General Public Music License (GPML), adapted directly from GNU general public license. Our 12 postcard propaganda campaign and the Bomb EP were originally sent out to nearly 1,700 members of the press and independent radio. Given the excellent acceptance the Bomb has received on college campuses across the U.S. (see news), Fitehouse has now expanded the campaign to include an additional 625 college and university newspapers and 450 college radio stations. Yeah, the revolution is going collegiate baby! To see the original press release that accompanied the EP, click here. Alternatively, read the press release that went out to college newspapers. To listen MP3's of the songs click on the titles below (to download them, right click on the links and choose "save target as": => "Running Scared"* => "All These Things"** To find out who worked on the tune, download a copy of the CD's credits, the "readme.txt" file that accompanied the Bomb EP.
What is the Fitehouse GPML? The Fitehouse General Public Music license is an open source license, meaning that we are encouraging individuals to copy, modify and build upon "Running Scared" by making its source code readily available (that is, the raw instrumental and vocal tracks that make up the song). The Fitehouse GPML is similar to the Creative Commons License, however the GPML requires the musician to make their raw tracks available. To see the GPML, click here. If you'd like re-mix Running Scared, or record your own version of the tune, be our guests! You can download the song's source code below. Just right click on the individual tracks and select "save target as" to download them. They are large full resolution WAV files and will take a really long time to download -- alternatively, the files are all available on the Bomb EP itself, which can be purchased at our gift shop. Note that some of the tracks are submixes (for example, the drums are presented as a single stereo wav file). If you require a greater break down of the raw tracks for your project, please get in touch with us so that we may make arrangements.
Drum tracks (102 Megs) Bass guitar (50 Megs) Distorted guitars (52 Megs) Clean guitars (52 Megs) Acoustic guitars (37 Megs) Crazy guitars (50 Megs) Vocals, poetic verses (49 Megs) Vocals, chorus (49 Megs) Vocals, group chants (29 Megs) Vocals, quotes (49 Megs)
We hope that you will use these tracks to create your own new, improved or just different version of "Running Scared." If you do, please send us a copy.

"Are you tired of hearing news about the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA, hereafter) suing 12-year-old children for downloading music? If so, there is a band that you should check out. Fitehouse"
- Michael J. Puglisi, Editor-in-Chief, The Georgetonian
"I think they [Fitehouse] have an inspiring approach. What they recognize is that for bands that aren't well known, the record labels don't offer many options. They're finding a new way to be noticed." - Fred von Lohmann, Senior Staff Attorney, Electronic Frontier Foundation (www.eff.org)
"In this day and age where email is
becoming the norm, these postcards are a revelation made up of equal
parts of Karl Marx and Groucho Marx." |
