The Fitehouse Philosophy

Fitehouse believes in the great potential of the individual and the inherent value of creativity and self-expression, as well as the enormous value that creativity brings to the communal experience. We seek inspiration from human cultural and productive endeavors, both past and present.

Fitehouse rejects the disproportionate corporate control of what music gets created and how it is disseminated. We recognize that the Big Five record label oligopoly and its representative body, the RIAA, are the greatest threat to musical variety and vitality today.  Fitehouse believes that in order for music to return to its former levels of vibrancy and innovativeness, the current Recording Industry Regime must be overthrown! We need to return to more organic and decentralized model for the creation and distribution of culture. These ideas are outlined in the band's manifesto Common Musical Sense.

Fitehouse brings together a group of members with unique tastes and musical backgrounds who nonetheless share a desire to produce well-crafted and highly melodic songs, falling generally into the rock/pop genre. Fitehouse strives to bring freshness to the rock genre so as to serve the late twenty and thirty-something generations (and beyond) whose musical tastes have been ignored in the recent evolution of pop music. Also in its quest to help shape the new decentralized musical reality, Fitehouse has set out to undertake a creative and independent promotion of its songs and musical vision. We intend to help establish a new paradigm by which bands form more direct relationships with their listeners, rather than relying on the old "pick me! pick me!" model of the current record label system.

Mocking the mass marketing approach to culture taken by the Big Five oligopoly, Fitehouse has formed its own media conglomerate, FMM industries (Fitehouse Music Manufacturing). FMM organizes a variety of propaganda campaigns  to inform the masses of the machinations of the Big Five oligopoly and to inspire musicians to seek non-traditional means of self promotion and dissemination of their music. FMM's major contribution in this area has been the introduction of the Fitehouse General Public Music License GPML), an open source license that allows musicians to share their inspiration and do what they have always done best: build on the creativity of others in order to produce great artistic works. We hope that Open Source Music will spur great innovation in the cultural sphere in the same way it has already proven successful in the software world.

As a final element to its philosophy, Fitehouse encourages its friends and supporters to seek greater heights of self-realization, through increased self-sufficiency, self-discovery, and intensified concentration on productive and creative endeavors. As Fitehouse has done, we hope that  you will share the fruits of your labors with those around you.
